Details about this class

Welcome to CIS 125D!

This course introduces you to databases and database management systems.

Contact the instructor, Greg Kerr by email — greg.kerr@pcc.edu — if you have any questions about the course, content, or attendance requirements. After the first week, the attendance requirements are flexible, although be sure to keep in touch with your instructor if you fall behind on the weekly due dates.

Technology

Microsoft Access will be used in the course. The software can be obtained for free from Azure Dev Tools for Teaching. In addition, you will need a word processor such as Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer, and a PDF reader. All of Microsoft Office can be obtained for free with Access. You can instead use Google Drive to create and edit documents.

Note that Microsoft Access is not available for MacOS. For students using Mac computers, access to a Windows operating system  and the Access software is provided via Propeller virtual desktop. This will be explained in the course.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
