Details about this class
This is a 4-credit class. A common guideline is that students should expect to spend approximately 2 to 3 hours studying outside of class each week for every credit hour earned. For a 4-credit course, that translates to roughly 8 to 12 hours of study time per week.
This is a hybrid class. Because we do not meet for 3 hours of lecture each week, we will meet in person for only 1.5 hours (4:30–5:50 p.m.). You are expected to watch the weekly lecture recordings before the class meeting (except in Week 1). The recordings are approximately 1.5 hours long and are often divided into two parts. There is no expectation to watch recordings before the first class meeting.
This is also a lab-heavy course that requires significant memorization. We offer Open Lab sessions where students can spend additional time working with the lab models and microscope slides. Attendance at Open Lab is not required, but it is highly recommended.
The lab section meets from 6:00 - 8:50 p.m.
I will share a sample syllabus a couple of weeks before the start of the term.

PLEASE NOTE regarding required textbooks:
- The 10th edition of "Anatomy & Physiology: Form and Function" by Kenneth Saladin, McGraw-Hill, is OPTIONAL. Students may use any reputable college-level Anatomy & Physiology textbook that covers the course learning outcomes. I curate open educational resources aligned with the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society learning outcomes, post the content on webpages, and create interactives to ensure alignment with the Society's learning outcomes.
- The BI 231Z Lab Success Guide has a free, fillable version with a drawing pad in our D2L Brightspace course shell, so you do not need to purchase the one from the bookstore.

No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
