APR224L Clinical Chemistry I

Presents basic theory of commonly ordered tests in the clinical chemistry laboratory, including: the physiological basis for the test, specimen type, test principles, expected values, sources of error, limitations of the test, and disease correlation. Covers general laboratory principles, methodologies, theories, instrumentation, and concepts associated with testing procedures used in the clinical chemistry laboratory. Introduces important characteristics and clinical significance of carbohydrates, proteins, enzymology, liver function, endocrinology, and cardiac markers. Lab skills will be acquired through on-the-job training. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Medical Laboratory Technology Apprenticeship Program, APR 114L, and APR 115L. (See course content and outcomes.)
