Prerequisites
Minimum requirements
30 of the 45 designated prerequisite credits must be completed by the end of PCC’s fall term (December 13, 2026) prior to the 2027 deadline. At minimum, the 30 prerequisite credits must include:
- Anatomy and Physiology I (BI 231Z)
- MTH 95 or higher, or proof of competency by approved PCC ALEKS math placement exam
The remaining prerequisites must be completed by the end of PCC’s spring term.
Grade requirements
- Prerequisite GPA must be at least a 3.0.
- Individual prerequisite courses must be complete with a letter grade of “C” or higher.
- Repeated courses will have the most recent grade used for the prerequisite GPA calculation.
Completion of the above application requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. See the prerequisites FAQ section for details regarding which courses can be waived and more.
Courses with a 7-year expiration date
The last year accepted for the 2027 application is 2020.
New math requirements for 2028 applications
If you haven’t completed MTH 95: Students applying in 2028 or after must complete the new math requirement of MTH 110 or higher.
If you have completed MTH 95: Students who have completed MTH 95 with a “C” grade or higher (current within 7 years of their application) may use this course to meet the math admission requirement through the 2030 application cycle. This option is available for MTH 95 only, not MTH 98 or MTH 105Z.
- MTH 95 – Intermediate Algebra (or higher), 3-5 credits, or PCC ALEKS math placement exam
- By the end of PCC’s fall term, applicants must complete one of the following:
- Pass MTH 95 (or higher) with a grade of “C” or better
- Demonstrate placement into MTH 105Z/111Z/211 and/or STAT 243Z
- By the end of PCC’s fall term, applicants must complete one of the following:
- BI 231Z – Anatomy and Physiology I (previously BI 231), 4 credits
- Must be completed by the end of PCC’s fall term.
- BI 232Z – Anatomy and Physiology II (previously BI 232), 4 credits
- BI 233Z – Anatomy and Physiology III (previously BI 233), 4 credits
- BI 234 – Microbiology, 4-5 credits
- FN 225 – Nutrition, 4 credits
- PSY 215 – Human Development, 4 credits
Courses with no expiration date
- WR 121Z – English Composition I, 3-4 credits
- WR 122Z – English Composition II, 3-4 credits
- Social science electives, 6-8 credits
- A minimum of 6 credits of social science electives must be completed (in addition to PSY 215).
- AAS general education and Nursing program electives
- In addition to the 45 credits of prerequisite courses required for admission, students will need to complete general education electives to graduate with the AAS in Nursing. See the list of approved elective courses for the AAS degree: General Education electives.
OCNE transfer considerations
- STAT 243Z – Statistics (was previously MTH 243)
- Course completion is recommended prior to applying to OHSU. For more information, visit the OHSU School of Nursing website.
- OHSU will not accept grades of “C-” or lower.
- Genetics module
- Biology course with a human genetics component – completion recommended prior to the start of OHSU.
- BI 102, BI 112, BI 221Z, BI 225, or BI 222Z (BI 212) at PCC will satisfy this requirement.
- Biology course with a human genetics component – completion recommended prior to the start of OHSU.
- WR 123, 222, or 227Z – Technical Writing
- A technical writing course is not needed if the following conditions are met:
- WR 121Z and WR 122Z are completed at 4 credits each.
- A U.S. or equivalent bachelor’s degree or higher has been earned (though you may still need additional elective credits to graduate).
- A technical writing course is not needed if the following conditions are met:
- Arts and Letters
