Immigrants and refugees in a college community
Explore Success is a 5-week workforce preparation class for immigrants and refugees interested in entering the workforce or joining a training program. Participants will meet once a week for 1.5 hours and discuss new topics. The class will have an opportunity to build a community and boost skills.
Registration is free and open to all community members!
You will learn
Resume writing
- A resume is a document created and used by a person to present their work experience, education background, skills, and accomplishments.
- Students will build their own resumes that they can use in their job search.
Essential skills
- Essential skills are soft skills. They are character traits and interpersonal qualities that support you to reach your goals.
- Students will practice communication skills, teamwork, time management, conflict resolution, creativity, and public speaking.
Interview practice
- An interview is a conversation between you and a possible employer. It consists of a series of questions highlighting the required skills an applicant needs to succeed in the available job position.
- Students will be able to practice interviewing for a job position in a safe space and receive feedback to improve their skills.
Workplace etiquette and American cultural workplace norms
- Understanding how to adapt to diverse work environments can help create strong professional relationships.
- In this class, students will explore general expectations in the workplace and how to communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
How to apply for jobs
- Students will practice searching for jobs and filling out applications.
- Students will explore websites used for job searches, such as Monster, LinkedIn, and Indeed.

Community group
The Opportunity Centers believe that change starts with you! In our community-based group participants will meet once a week for 1.5 hours to explore a new topic and gain new skills, insight, and success strategies. All participants will explore resources at PCC and in the community. By engaging in new ways of thinking about your future, you will gain a clear vision and pathway to help you reach your professional or educational goals.
Classes are free and all community members are welcome. We accept walk-ins!
