Staying organized in college
Google Drive
Before the term starts, get your Google Drive organized before you start accumulating assignments. By organizing your Drive, you’ll be able to locate important documents and assignments easily.
- Log into your MyPCC.
- On the Home tab, click on triangle icon in the upper right corner.
- A new window should open up with your PCC Google Drive. Start by creating folders for each of your classes for each term you are enrolled in.
- Download and save your syllabus from each class into the appropriate class folder.
- Create folders for other PCC related items such as scholarship essays, financial aid documents, etc.
- As you complete assignments, make sure the document is in the correct class folder with a descriptive name.
Google Calendar
Google Calendar is a powerful tool to help you organize your schedule. On Calendar, you can adjust your settings to provide reminders, color code your events, and create a task to-do list. Get started by taking the following steps.
- Log into your MyPCC.
- On the Home tab, click on calendar icon in the upper right corner.
- A new window should open with your PCC Google Calendar. Add the following to your calendar:
- Classes each week
- Study time
- Any other responsibilities: work, clubs, etc.
- Tasks
- Add PCC’s academic calendar by scrolling to the bottom of the Academic Calendar page and clicking “Add to Google Calendar” imagine on the bottom right side.
Get more out of Google Calendar
If you want to improve your Google Calendar usage, consider creating different calendars and color coded, so you’ll know what to expect with a glance.
- On the home page of your Google Calendar, click on the “+” next to the “Other Calendars” and select, “Create new calendar.”
- Add a name and description, then click “Create calendar.”
- Your new calendar should appear to the left under “Settings for my calendar.” Double click on your calendar to adjust the settings.
- On the settings, you can adjust your time zones and add notifications.
- On your Google Calendar homepage, your new calendar should now appear under “My calendars.” If you want to adjust the color of your calendar or adjust settings, click on the three dots to the right of your calendar and follow the prompts.
