Sylvania leaders come together to support campus staff during pandemic

Last month, Sylvania Campus Dean of Instruction Karen Paez and Dean of Student Development Vicky López Sánchez led a group of faculty and staff from Sylvania to discuss how the campus deans could better support staff and students, who are working and studying remotely.
This is the first of multiple events that bring together the leadership to show support for the faculty and staff.
“While we are working from home, our community misses out the opportunity for the ‘water cooler talks’ and the chance interactions with their colleagues and students as they walk through campus,” Paez said. “We hope that this will help create connectivity with our colleagues.”
The group discussed ways to help students during remote learning, best practices in online education, caring for students, culturally responsive teaching, academic integrity, and the state of racism in our communities and at PCC.
Similar events will be conducted in the future and Sylvania staff and faculty should keep an eye on their emails for information.

PCC offers this limited open forum as an extension of the respectful, well-reasoned discourse we expect in our classroom discussions. As such, we welcome all viewpoints, but monitor comments to be sure they stick to the topic and contribute to the conversation. We will remove them if they contain or link to abusive material, personal attacks, profanity, off-topic items, or spam. This is the same behavior we require in our hallways and classrooms. Our online spaces are no different.
