Five is Alive: Building 5 party highlights structure’s important uses

Photos and story by

Last week, PCC officially opened its latest present – the renovated Building 5.

The grand-opening party included speeches, dancing (mostly impromptu), tours, cooking, studying, Poppie the Panther and, best of all, four cakes!

Nearly 150 faculty and staff are located in the new building, which opened in January. At 62,000 square feet, Building 5 is Rock Creek’s largest construction project funded by the 2008 voter-approved bond measure. The idea of the building is to be the hub of student life and activity. In total, Building 5 has six general purpose classrooms, a bookstore, expanded food services, study areas, a student government area, a dance classroom, office space for faculty, and a lab for the Food Science and Nutrition program. The original gym and weight room were given touch-ups as well.

Party on!
