PCC camp gives high school girls level playing field
Photos and Story by James Hill
In its second year, the all-girls FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics camp is hosted by PCC’s Machine Manufacturing Technology Program at the Sylvania Campus. The camp introduces high school girls from all over the area to machine shop theory and engineering basics of robotics as well as provides them with lab time with machines. It’s a way to give girls a learning environment with a STEM focus without feeling pressured by boys. The camp is made possible from corporate and community funding through the PCC Foundation and by support from a National Science Foundation grant.
