PCC Theater Arts presents 'Henry IV'

“Henry IV, Part One” by William Shakespeare is coming to Portland Community College.
The production centers on King Henry IV, who plucked his crown from another man’s head and needs an heir he can rely upon. Sadly for him, Prince Hal is the most prodigal of sons, one who apparently prefers brothels to battlefields and keeps company with a band of hapless thieves, led by the notorious and rotund Jack Falstaff. When rebellion breaks out, the question of Hal’s true nature becomes suddenly pressing.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m., March 6-8, 14 and 15, and 2 p.m. on March 16. The show on March 14 will be sign language interpreted. All shows are scheduled for the Performing Arts Center at the Sylvania Campus, 12000 S.W. 49th Ave. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for seniors, PCC students and staff, and $5 per person group rate for 15 or more.
A unique twist to this term’s productions includes several pre-show discussion panels. Before the show on March 6, a panel will explore the topic “Portrait of the King as a Young Man: Fact and Fiction in Shakespeare’s Histories.” The panel discussion will start at 6:45 p.m. “Forging the Crown” is a Q & A with the Henry IV production team and is also set for 6:45 p.m. on March 14.
The play stars theater arts instructor John Duncan as King Henry IV, and students Kristopher Mahoney-Watson (Lake Oswego) as Prince Hal, Lauren Modica (Tigard) as Falstaff, Sarah Zisa (Milwaukie) as Hotspur and Peter Ashenberner (Southeast Portland) as Poins and Lady Percy. Production staff includes Gretchen Icenogle (Southwest Portland) as director, Frances Marsh (Milwaukie) as technical director, Dan Hays (Northeast Portland) is the set and lighting designer and Margaret Chapman (Southeast Portland) is the costume designer.
