Cooking series makes kitchen comfortable for beginners

BEAVERTON, Ore. – The kitchen doesn’t have to be a scary place. Even if you don’t have much experience as a cook, a new series offered by Portland Community College can give you the basics you need to cook delicious meals with confidence. If you are new to cooking, the Back to Basics Cooking Series is for you. Discover how simple, satisfying and enjoyable cooking can be. The non-credit series features three classes, meeting from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Jan. 29 through Feb. 12, in Room 1114-E at the PCC Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Sign up for the entire series for $83 or an individual class for $33. Topics include:’ Pantry Essentials (Jan. 29). No more running to the store for last minute items. Learn what basic staples you need in your kitchen for hassle-free cooking including utensils, pots, pans, herbs and seasonings. The class includes a demonstration of preparing easy breakfasts with style.’ Salads and Pastas (Feb. 5). Create delicious, quick, and easy pastas and salads. These basic recipes will serve as a strong base for your own experimentation and future successes.’ Soups and Stews (Feb. 12). A basic soup and stew base allows for many ingredient variations.
