Colors, patterns collide in abstract mosaics class

Photos and Story by

PORTLAND, Ore. – Sometimes art is not found in complete pictures, but rather in the detailed beauty of materials of which they are comprised. Portland Community College will explore this notion with a hands-on, non-credit class in abstract mosaics. Taught by local mosaic artist David Peroff, Abstract Mosaics will focus on color, linear interaction and angular juxtaposition in composition as well as use of a variety of materials. Students will create mosaic works of abstract beauty rather than forming pictures of actual subjects. The result is stunning, vibrant mosaic art that reflects each student’s imagination. The three-part class will be offered two times this term as follows: from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays Jan. 12 through Jan. 26; and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2 through Feb. 16. Both classes will be held in Room 134 of the Mount Tabor Hall at PCC’s Southeast Center, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave. Cost for each class is $49 plus a $50 material fee payable to the instructor. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-788-6265.
