PCC staff encouraged to help local schools

Photos and Story by

PCC has a great opportunity for Portland Community College staff to get involved in a fun service project with Hands on Portland. They are encouraging groups to coordinate at least 10 people to participate in a day of service for our schools on October 2, 2004. Their goal is to have over 1,000 volunteers at different schools in the Portland metro area, including Clackamas and Washington County. Activities will include cleaning, fixing, painting, and landscaping. This is the main benefit that Hands on Portland does each year to help fund all of their service projects and volunteer support. So, not only will our time make a real difference in the lives of our children and future of our public schools, but our pledges are essential to the functioning of one of our best community partners. To sweeten the deal, note that Hands on Portland is offering some awesome prizes (in addition to shirts, hats, etc) for the largest teams, highest fundraising, etc., including 2 tickets on Southwest Airlines, an overnight package at 5th Avenue Suites, and a Blazers Basketball Game Package for up to 25 team members! It’s easy too. They have all the information you need to coordinate a team, be a team captain, or volunteer individually, at www.handsonportland.org, or you can call them at 503-413-4487 for posters and brochures.Nothing like a little healthy competition when it comes to helping out a good cause and building our community.
