Latin film festival starts May 3 at Cascade Campus

CASCADE CAMPUS – Portland Community College is hosting the Fifth Annual Latinismo!, the Latin American film festival, from Monday, May 3 to Thursday, May 6 at Terrell Hall 122 on the Cascade Campus, 705 N. Killingsworth St.The festival is an annual reflection of Latin American immigrants as pioneers through film, art, action and celebration. The film festival and its events are organized by a group of students who work to raise the awareness of the diversity of Latin culture. Admission is free and open to the public.The films include "Nueba Yol"at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 3; "The Silence of Neto"at noon on Tuesday, May 4; "Los Trabajadores (The Workers)"at noon on Thursday, May 6.There will be other events like a Latino forum at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4 in Terrell Hall 122 to discuss modern day pioneers. There will be a Cinco de Mayo celebration, with food, music and pi’ata-smashing, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5 in the Student Center dining room. Also, on the schedule will be a migrant workers forum from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 6 in Terrell Hall 122, followed by Ballet Folkloriko in the Student Center dining room from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.All week on campus, there will be an art exhibit and sale sponsored by Bohio Studio.
