Christen PCC's new ceramics studio with non-credit pottery classes

PORTLAND, Ore. – Be among some of the first students to use the state-of-the-art ceramics studio at Portland Community College’s new Southeast Center, 2305 S.E. 82nd Avenue, slated for opening this January. The new facility boasts several outdoor kilns, indoor natural lighting, and a space complete with the latest tools for creating beautiful, expert-level ceramic art.There are four new non-credit ceramics classes to choose from as follows:? Claywork. Benefit from hands-on assistance as you work on your own projects. Some clay experience is recommended. The 10-week class will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 through March 9. Cost is $155 and includes 25 pounds of clay.? Wheel Throwing: Advanced. Explore advanced wheel techniques, alteration of forms, building composite forms and using the wheel as a versatile tool. The 10-week class will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 6 through March 9. Cost is $155 and includes 25 pounds of clay.? Sculpting the Face and Head. Make masks and a full bust, with an emphasis on capturing expression. The five-week class will be offered two times during the term. The first class will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Jan. 8 through Feb. 5. The second class will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 12 through March 11. Cost is $69 and includes 25 pounds of clay.? Basic Clay Techniques. Learn the possibilities of working with clay through demonstrations and individual hands-on instruction, with an emphasis on wheel-throwing. The 10-week class will be offered at two different times every Saturday, Jan. 10 through March 13. The first class will take place from 9 to 11 a.m.; the second class will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Cost is $109 and includes 12 pounds of clay.For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-788-6265.
