Step into Winter with PCC Snowshoe Course

Photos and Story by

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Make the most of Oregon winters with a walk through the snowy forest. Portland Community College can get you outfitted and on your way with an upcoming course in Snowshoe Fundamentals. Snowshoeing offers great exercise and a chance to experience the quiet, majestic beauty of our nearby mountains. In this non-credit course, Instructor Joseph Whittington will help students quickly gain the confidence, skills and equipment knowledge needed to traverse the winter backcountry. The course includes a fieldtrip on a moderate winter wonderland trail on Mt. Hood. Students will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. for two Mondays, Jan. 13 and Jan. 18, at PCC’s Washington County Workforce Training Center, 18624 N.W. Walker Road. Fieldtrip details will be discussed in class. PCC tuition cost is $30, with a $70 fee payable to Oregon Peak Adventures, and includes transportation, equipment, snacks and lunch. For more information, contact PCC Community Education at 503-533-2708.
