ROCK CREEK CAMPUS – In order to help voters decide which gubernatorial candidate to vote for in the May primary election, the Associated Students of Portland Community College (ASPCC) will host two public forums. The first forum will feature the Republican candidates on Friday, April 19th, 6:30 p.m. and will be moderated by Jeff Grossman, Washington County Republican Party chair. The second forum will host the Democrats, Friday, April 26, 6:30 p.m. and will be moderated by Rick Ross, chair of the Washington County Democrats. The forums will be held in the Building 3 mall, are free and the public is encouraged to attend."What makes our forums unique is their accessibility to the public, " said Jesse Lohrke, one of the student organizers. "The forums will be held in a large, open area with lots of seats, plus we are holding the forums on Friday nights, which should allow working people to attend."Michael Anderson, another student in charge of organizing the forums, said he wanted to ensure as much access as possible. The forum will be interpreted for the deaf and for the Spanish speaking audience. In addition, the forums will be broadcast on public access cable TV stations in the Portland metro area on Tualatin Valley Cable Access, Columbia County Cable and Portland Cable Access; in Salem through Capitol Community Television; in Canby on Our Community Television System; in Eugene at Community TV of Lane; in Oregon City on Willamette Falls Television; in Woodburn on Community Access TV; and at community college campuses throughout the state. "We have invited every candidate in the primary race, regardless of how much money they’ve spent on the race,"said Lohrke. "We feel that anyone who entered the race for governor did so because they care about government and the public should have access to that candidate, too."The PCC Rock Creek Campus is located at 17705 N.W. Springville Road, off the Sunset Highway at the north end of 185th Ave. The campus is accessible by Tri-Met bus, number 52 or 67. For more information, call 503-614-7442 or email pccforum@yahoo.com.
