PCC Students Shine in National VICA Competition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three Portland Community College students placed in the top 10 of the national Vocational Industrial Clubs of America competition held June 29 through July 2 in Kansas City, Mo. All three attend at PCC’s Rock Creek Campus.

PCC students Karl Lange of Northeast Portland, John Moore of North Portland and Loren White of Hillsboro competed against more than 4,000 trade and technical students throughout the United States and Canada. Nearly 12,000 high school and community college students and their advisors attended the four-day event.

Lange, a Building Construction Technology student at Rock Creek, took fifth place in carpentry in a field of 26 students. Moore finished sixth in the Auto Collision Technology portion of the competition, while White, a Diesel Technology student netted fifth in Diesel Equipment Technology.

VICA, renamed recently SkillsUSA-VICA, is a national organization that serves trade, industrial, technical and health occupation students across the country in public high schools, vocational centers, area vocational schools and two-year colleges.
