A popular wife and husband team is sharing the 1998 "Faculty Member of the Year" award from the Institute for Management and Professional Development at Portland Community College. Portland Police Chief Charles Moose and Sandra Herman Moose, recent law school graduate, have been teaching for four years in the management program.

Their courses on Gender Conflict Resolution and on Leadership Skill Development consistently attract full classrooms, according to Mary Lou Wendel Webb, PCC division dean who announced the award. Both Charles and Sandra Herman Moose have master’s degrees in public administration.

Webb said the topics they teach are applicable to the most important personal and professional development issues people face today. "Their work experience adds such credibility to the subjects they teach," she said. "And with their busy schedules, they still make time to give back to the community by teaching pertinent subjects."

The Institute for Management and Professional Development, celebrating its 10th year as part of Portland Community College’s Open Campus, provides practical management courses for working professionals at night, on the weekend, and over the Internet. Most courses are presented by working professionals who teach classes in their professional disciplines. More information is available at 731-6000.
