The product of parents who immigrated from Mexico (Puebla and Michoacan), I am a Xicano who was born and raised among the cherry orchards in The Dalles, Oregon. I began working in those orchards from the age of 12 along with my dad, younger brothers and other migrant farm workers seeking better opportunities for our families.
After high school I was accepted into the College Assistance Migrant Program at Oregon State University. I went on to earn Bachelor degrees in Spanish and Psychology. I continued at OSU and earned a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Latinx Studies.
My passion is to serve younger generations of Xicanx and Latinx youth access opportunities through higher education. I felt that the Rock Creek MC was a place where I could assist other minoritized students navigate the US educational system and also work to challenge the institution in addressing barriers students continue to face.
Climbing cherry trees, falling off of them, and getting lost in the giant orchards near my house fostered a love for the outdoors. Whether it’s hiking or biking in the Tillamook, skiing on Mount Hood, or surfing Cape Kiwanda I enjoy exploring the Oregon wilderness. When I can’t be outside due to the rain I prefer to binge watch shows like Stranger Things and Family Matters or read some books and comics. I also like to travel and learn about new places!
