How to Add and Share a Course in the Discover Tool

This page is intended for the owner of a course and will go over how you can add a course to the Discover tool, as well as how to find the URL for the Discover course that you can share with others.

  • Who is this for: Instructors or course owners
  • What is required: A D2L Brightspace course

Adding a Course to the Discover Tool

To make your course show up in the Discover tab:

  1. Access a course you would like to make discoverable in D2L Brightspace
  2. Click Instructor Tools > Course Offering Info
    • If you do not have the Instructor Tools menu, then click Course Admin, and then click Course Offering Information
  3. Scroll down to the Discover section of the page
  4. Check the box labeled, “Make this course available in Discover so Learners can self-enroll.”
    • If there are any Enrollment Rules you would like to apply to the course (e.g., only those with the Instructor role in D2L Brightspace can see/enroll in the course), then expand the Enrollment Rules box to add a rule
    • If you would like to moderate who has access to the course via Discover manually, then expand the Approval box and check the option titled “Require approval for self-enrollment requests.”
  5. Click Save and Close at the bottom of the Course Offering Information page

Note:

  • It can take upwards to 30 minutes before a course that has been made discoverable shows up in the Discover tool of D2L Brightspace
  • It is not possible to add a password associated with enrollment via Discover
  • It is not possible to limit the number of folks who can enroll after making a course discoverable

Sharing a Course Link

Once your course is listed in Discover, follow these steps to share its enrollment link:

  1. Log in to D2L Brightspace and go to the Discover tab.
  2. Search for the course you want to share using the search bar or by browsing through the Featured, New, or All Sections portion of the page.
  3. Click on the course title to open it.
  4. Copy the URL from the address bar of your browser.
  5. Share this link with individuals who want to enroll.
