This painting was part of a research project studying the works of Andrew Wyeth. Like Wyeth, I wanted to focus on rendering a strong sense of light and expression. However, rather than using Wyeth’s minimal or naturalistic approach to the portrait, I chose to go for a more maximalist approach, using props and colorful makeup and clothing on my model for the reference photo this was based on.
