This was created as part of portrait/self portrait project where I explored the role of a subject's gaze in portraiture. Over the course of this shoot I experimented with different ways of framing the subject's line of sight in order to convey a specific feeling in the viewer. After several attempts, I arrived at this image. The subject leans against a fence which forms a leading line to her eyes, which are in direct contact with the camera. Combined with photograph's composition and the black-and-white format, the direct eye contact with the camera attempts to establish a direct emotional connection with the viewer.
