I've been exploring how people navigate through spaces as seen from a birds-eye view above. We're always being watched and never alone. At this very moment, a satellite or drone capturing us. We are unwilling participants contributing to this and there is no remote corner of the earth we can escape to. We think we are in control of our patterns of movement. We are not. Whether, traveling along a sidewalk, hiking trail, or remote glacier carved valley, our direction is predetermined by outside forces (mostly by human design). The view from this vantage point is also a great equalizer. Culture, gender, and race is difficult to ascertain and only some clues come from circulation or use of land. From above one might envision a world without boundaries or nations. The COVID-19 Pandemic has further impacted how humans interact with the world around them. Social distancing imposes a spacing between people that is as true in Beijing as it is in New York.
