Northwest Outdoor Science School: Volunteers as a Student Leader!

Posted by

Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter

Be a Student Leader at Outdoor School this spring!

The Northwest Outdoor Science School seeks Portland Community College students to volunteer for ONE WEEK at one of our four camps in NW Oregon. Student Leaders teach fun, hands-on environmental science activities to sixth-grade students each day, and serve as their cabin leaders for the week.

New sessions begin each week between March 11 and June 1.

Visit our website at nwoutdoorschool.org to see our spring schedule.

No experience is necessary – all training is provided on-site. You only need to enjoy children & the outdoors, and be willing to dedicate yourself in full for one week to create a life-changing experience for students!

About the Organization

Northwest Outdoor Science School is a multi-day, overnight experience for elementary and middle school students. Our program is operated by the Northwest Regional Education Service District. Participants in the program live in, and learn about, the natural world at one of our four beautiful sites in NW Oregon. Each site has ten or eleven staff members who work closely not just with the elementary & middle school students, but also with our Student Leaders (a.k.a. Counselors), most of whom are high school students and college students.

Students learn in the outdoors while participating in hands-on, interactive and experiential activities that are taught mostly in small groups. Our fun field study activities are designed to teach students about nature while actually being in nature, which promotes a curiosity about, and appreciation for, the natural world.

About the Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter

The Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter allows students, faculty, and staff at PCC a more comprehensive look at volunteer needs and opportunities from our community partners. Our hope is that the newsletter will allow subscribers to stay better informed about community service opportunities in the tri-county areas of Portland, Oregon, as well as non-profit internships and scholarships available locally and nationally.
