Metropolitan Family Service: Help Support Seniors in Your Community!

Posted by

Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter

Metropolitan Family Service currently has several volunteer opportunities open in our older adult programming, with some potential for internship placements!

We are seeking volunteers interested in being part of our new program, the Benefits of Outreach Center. This new service screens older adults (60+) and people 18 and older with disabilities for services and benefits and then provide assistance with the application process. Volunteers conduct outreach to older adults and people with disabilities to see if they are eligible for federal programs that provide financial assistance for groceries, prescription cost, Medicare premiums and energy bills. Volunteers will learn skills in working with older adults and people with disabilities. Volunteers will learn computer and phone skills, as well as interacting with databases widely used by many agencies in Oregon.

No experience is needed for these opportunities. Ongoing training and support is offered to help volunteers learn fundamental and emerging skills in the area of aging services. Volunteers must be 18 or older and successfully complete a background check.

About the Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter

The Volunteer Opportunities Newsletter allows students, faculty, and staff at PCC a more comprehensive look at volunteer needs and opportunities from our community partners.
