This flexible, hands-on program emphasizes doing over theory. No prior project management experience is required. You’ll work through real-world scenarios using proven tools to build confidence in planning, leading, and delivering successful projects.

Workshops and Custom trainings 

Organizations can enroll employees in individual project management workshops.  Payment can be processed per workshop or through a not-to-exceed annual contract. Current PCC students interested in building practical project management skills may also register for these professional development workshops through MyPCC.

In addition to workshops held at PCC, this program offers customized group trainings tailored to organizational needs. These trainings can be delivered on-site, at an organization’s location, or virtually, and are designed to address real-world project challenges, team collaboration, and process improvement.

Project Management Fundamentals (CEU 3436)

This introductory workshop familiarizes participants with commonly used project management terminology and standard practices. While not designed to prepare individuals for a formal project management or supervisory role, it provides a strong foundation for understanding how projects are planned, organized, and supported within organizations.

Who should attend

Professionals who participate in or support projects, work on cross-functional teams, or want a foundational understanding of project management concepts. No prior experience required.

Intermediate Project Management Skills for the Workplace (CEU 4036)

This workshop is for individuals with basic project management knowledge who want to deepen skills. Participants explore key project phases — initiation, planning, execution, and closeout — while learning advanced tools and strategies for managing projects effectively. Hands-on activities ensure immediate workplace application.

Who should attend

Professionals with foundational knowledge ready to strengthen planning, execution, and coordination skills. Ideal for those who support projects, lead small initiatives, or collaborate closely with project managers.

AI in Project Management (CEU 4067)

This workshop explores how artificial intelligence is reshaping project management practices. Participants examine real-world tools and strategies that improve efficiency, decision-making, and team performance. Emphasis is on ethical and effective application across the project lifecycle.

Who should attend

Project professionals with foundational knowledge interested in leveraging AI to improve productivity, collaboration, and project outcomes.

What you’ll learn

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Understand AI applications across key project management functions
  • Explore real-world AI tools that support planning, communication, and execution
  • Apply strategies to enhance productivity and team performance using AI
High-Performance Project Teams (coming soon!)

This course focuses on building and leading effective project teams. Participants will explore team dynamics, communication strategies, leadership approaches, and methods for collaboration and conflict management. Emphasis is on practical tools to foster trust, accountability, and sustained team performance.

Professionals who work on or lead project teams and want to strengthen team collaboration, communication, and overall performance.

Meet the instructors

Connie Plowman

Connie Plowman

Connie Plowman is an education and corporate leader with deep expertise in leadership and project management. She is an Adjunct Faculty member at PCC and previously held senior leadership roles, including Interim Executive Director at the CLIMB and Newberg Centers. In the corporate sector, Connie spent over two decades with an international project management firm, retiring as Chief Operating Officer, and led education initiatives at IBM. She is the co-author of two project management books and holds professional credentials including Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, Certified Emotional Intelligence Trainer, and Project Management Professional (PMP®). Her experience spans organizational leadership, project delivery, and talent development, bringing practical insights and real-world strategies to the classroom.

Mark J. Van Heuvel

Mark J. Van Heuvel

Mark J. Van Heuvel is a business, project management, and education professional with experience in corporate leadership, entrepreneurship, and higher education. He is an Adjunct Faculty member at PCC, teaching Project Management and courses in business, leadership, and strategic planning. Mark is also Managing Director of Laren Group LLC, a West Coast commercial real estate firm specializing in self-storage. His corporate background includes management roles at G. Heileman Brewing Company, Vancorp International, and Kraft Foods, where he focused on operations, human resources, and business development. Active in civic leadership, Mark has served as President of the Pearl District Business Association, the Job Service Employers Committee (Oregon), and the State of Washington Recycling Association. He is the author of Your Winning Project, a project management guide blending technical skills with effective team leadership.
