Course Description

Provides hands-on experience with tree climbing for the landscape industry. Includes climbing techniques, equipment selection and configuration, and safety procedures in accordance with ANSI Z133 and industry best practices. Recommended: LAT 240 or industry tree care experience. Audit available.

Addendum to Course Description

This course has a demonstration-based format of technical skills and concepts.  Students will practice skill-building under the supervision of the instructor.  The majority of required climbing equipment is provided. 

Intended Outcomes for the course

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Assess trees and worksite scenarios for pre-climb safety  and task execution.  
  2. Skillfully configure and operate current industry standard climbing systems.
  3. Execute safe climbing techniques and skills appropriate to the most common industry tasks.
  4. Apply knowledge of applicability and safety in gear selection, inspection, and configuration.
  5. Apply the ISA and ANSI industry standards and best practices appropriately.

Demonstration-based format with skill-building practice by students with instructor supervision.
