Industry Sector Strategies

Industry Sector StrategiesGiven the community college’s role in supporting workforce development, it is critical the college be deeply connected to our partners in business, industry, and community. These connections will help ensure that credit and academic non-credit programming are responsive to the region’s business and community needs.

This project will establish PCC industry sector strategies that are grounded in racial and economic justice. Industry sector strategy development and planning will involve regular and active engagement with, and advice from, diverse and representative business and industry partners, community organization and agency partners, K-12 and university partners, and current and alumni students. Strategy implementation may involve convening industry sector councils or task forces, specific industry outreach, job and economic data analysis, consortia engagement, and other targeted and coordinated industry strategies.

The industry sector strategy planning and implementation will inform college decisions related to academic programming and support for improved access, retention, and outcomes for historically underserved and marginalized populations. The strategies will be used to create, refine, and adapt programs to industry and employment needs, better setting students up for success. This will enable the college to respond with agility to community and workforce needs.

Utilizing community input and research, this project has identified potential industry sectors for engagement, including Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Technology; Information and Computing Sciences; Construction; Health and Biomedical Sciences; Human Services; Business; Transportation; Art, Music, and Design; and Emergency Professions. PCC pathways, programs, and disciplines may align with more than one industry sector.
