A Recipe for Success
When Jane Sivers launched Maddie’s Asian Fusion Cupcakes on May 10, 2025, the response was immediate. In just four hours at the Sellwood-Moreland Farmer’s Market, she sold over $1,000 worth of cupcakes — nearly one every minute. By mid-July, operating only four hours a week, Maddie’s had already grossed more than $10,000 in sales!
Inspired by Maddie
Jane’s 3-year-old daughter, Maddie, is the heart behind the business. “My 3-year-old daughter, Maddie, inspired me to do what makes me happy, and also focus on young women empowerment. I want her to grow up watching mommy pave her own trail, become a CEO and bet on herself. I want her to witness the best of me.”
Maddie’s is more than a bakery — it’s a mission-driven business run by a team of six young women. As Jane tells them: “We are not doing anyone any favor by shelving our potential or short selling our strengths, so the world would think we are ‘sweet’ and wouldn’t be intimidated by us. They should be.”
Fresh Flavors with a Twist
Maddie’s cupcakes are crafted with fresh, natural ingredients inspired by Asian flavors, including fresh ube, pure pandan leaf extract, organic matcha, and butterfly pea flower. Customers flock to the bright pink Maddie’s tent at the farmers market each Saturday, not only for the flavors but also for the vibrant energy behind the brand.
Finding a Path with the SBDC
When Jane first came to the PCC Small Business Development Center, she was stuck. “The challenge I was facing when I signed up for SBDC’s business builder class was that I had NO CLUE how to turn a passion and a unique concept into a profitable business.”
Through the Business Builders training program, Jane gained the tools she needed to launch. “The program did exactly what I hoped to achieve: with the help of Kayla and other instructors, I developed my business plan, I was brought into perspective the steps I will need to take to launch a new business. I stopped dreaming, and started planning.”

Next on the Menu: Catering
With a strong farmers market presence and six part-time team members already on board, Jane is turning her sights toward catering. Expanding into catered events will allow Maddie’s to bring its unique flavors and empowering mission to new audiences beyond the Saturday market. A permanent retail location remains a long-term goal, but catering is Jane’s next immediate focus.
Words of Advice
For other entrepreneurs, Jane’s message is simple: “Do it immediately. Unless you want your dream to stay just an idea, do it. Because the SBDC gives us resources and a community you can lean on and lean into, without which we are all just building businesses alone and Googling how to.”
