Details about this class

Interested in creative writing? You’ve come to the right place!

In our WR 199A class, you’ll work in groups and on solo adventures as you play with different elements of craft. We’ll have in-class brainstorming and writing sessions, as well as workshops to elicit feedback from the collective group.

Meet Your New Writing Mentor

Hi, I’m Jess!

I'm originally from Southern California. I went to school in the Bay area, and I taught at San Jose State University before moving to the Portland area.

I have a Border Collie named Eevee (yes, after the Pokémon), and I am a notoriously slow reader. So, if you have imposter syndrome about being a writer/reader, do not fret! I’m here with you.

Some of my favorite writers of the moment (because it is too hard to pick my all-time favorites) are as follows:

  • Nnedi Okorafor
  • N.K Jemisin
  • Silvia Moreno-Garcia
  • Ocean Vuong

Technology

The specific software/hardware/equipment used in this course are:

  • D2L

  • Google Services (i.e. Gmail, Drive, Meet, Docs, Slides, Calendar, Forms)

  • PDF Reader (e.g. Acrobat, Preview)

  • A laptop with a working webcam and microphone

  • Access to a printer

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
