Details about this class
This course requires both attendance at synchronous online meetings (held at the times specified in the course schedule) and the completion of asynchronous assignments and assessments. Attendance at the synchronous meetings is mandatory.
The total time commitment for this course is equivalent to the hours typically spent in an on-campus classroom setting (approximately four hours per week), supplemented by time dedicated to studying and completing assignments. A standard college-level, 4-credit course generally requires about two hours of work outside of class for each credit hour (an additional eight hours per week). This commitment encompasses both synchronous activities (e.g., class meetings, peer practice) and asynchronous work (e.g., studying, homework). As this class utilizes a hybrid format, meeting only 50% of the standard class time, students gain increased flexibility for independent work but must also commit to completing a substantial amount of coursework outside of the scheduled meeting times.
Language courses at PCC emphasize oral proficiency, and a significant portion of class time is dedicated to speaking activities. Students enrolled in Spanish 101 are strongly encouraged to also register for the one-credit Spanish 111-C (Conversation) course, although it is not a required component of the program.
Technology
Students are required to have access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection, as well as a microphone and webcam, which are mandatory for participation in class sessions. Students who only use a phone for class might experience difficulties navigating through the various applications that are used simultaneously in class.
Additionally, the course utilizes the following platforms: Zoom, D2L Brightspace, and the VHL Supersite, access to which is included in the textbook package available for purchase through the PCC Bookstore.
If you have questions or concerns regarding these technology requirements, please contact your instructor.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
