Details about this class
Welcome! Thanks for considering taking MTH 95! I really enjoy teaching the class and look forward to working with you.
MTH 95 Topics: MTH 95 is the third term of our algebra sequence at PCC and prepares you for college algebra and other precalculus work. In MTH 95 we cover algebraic techniques (like factoring, rational expressions, solving quadratic, rational, and root equations, and graphing parabolas) that are essential for precalculus and calculus.
Course Structure: This class will meet face-to-face on the Cascade Campus twice per week at the times and locations listed in the schedule. The material will be presented in a mix of lecture and activities during our class sessions, with an emphasis on active learning.
Grading: The grade for the class will be based mostly on written worksheets, online homework, and exams.
- There will be two types of homework assignments (written worksheets and online homework) to complete each week. A short, 1-2 page written worksheet (3-6 questions) will be assigned each day we have a lesson. It will be due at the start of the next class session. Online homework will be assigned for each section covered in a week and be due at the start of the next week. The online homework will be accessed through our D2L shell. So you'll need to have access to a computer either at home or at a computer lab on campus.
- There will be three required exams during the term, two midterms and a cumulative final exam. Both exams will be closed book, no notes and take place during class. The final exam score can used to replace one of the two midterm scores if you either miss a midterm or do poorly on a midterm.
Technology
- Access to a computer and internet access in order to check your email, access class document in D2L, and complete online homework is required (PCC has multiple computer labs available).
- Ability to scan written documents to pdf format using either a scanner or phone app is required.
- Access to a basic or scientific calculator (not on a phone or computer) is required.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
