Details about this class
Welcome to JPN 101 at PCC!
This course is an introduction to Japanese language and culture for students with no prior experience with Japanese language. You will learn the four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, to cultivate communicative competence in Japanese.
In this 5-credit course, you will attend class twice weekly (T & TH, 1:00 – 3:20 PM). Research suggests that students should spend approximately 2 hours outside of class for every credit hour to be successful, so you will be expected to study and complete activities and assignments outside of class accordingly.
Attendance is required for this course. Students will interact with each other and participate in learning activities both inside and outside of class to build a supportive learning community. Additionally, I will offer one-on-one and group study sessions throughout the term. If you have any inquiries, please contact me at yumiko.omata@pcc.edu.
Technology
This is an in-person class, and we will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Sylvania campus. You will be required to access D2L (Desire2Learn) to submit all of your homework electronically, so having access to the internet and a computer/tablet is necessary.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
