Details about this class

Hi, my name is Chelle. This class is intended to expose you to the fundamentals of engineering, using a wide range of topics that apply to different engineering fields. I think engineering is very fun, innovative and exciting and in this class you will learn to build your engineering judgement - a process of thinking.

  • Nothing needs to be done before our first session.
Course Intro

This course is fully in-person for both the lecture and lab components, held twice a week on Tuesday/Thursday mornings. There will be virtual office hours, details on date and times to be provided on the course syllabus on D2L - PCC’s learning management system. 

The course consists of; worksheets, assignments, labs, a midterm (Exam1), a final exam (Exam2). This class has a solid mix of hands-on lab work combined with academic learning and problem solving. 

The course requires you to use the internet to access course materials and internet based tools to learn from the course.
Therefore, your computer should have installed or be able to access the following tools via internet:

  • D2L Learning Management System for the class content.

  • Zoom (provided by PCC and built-in to the LMS)

Technology

  • Computer or Tablet with access to the Internet  - see this site for more information
  • Web Browser and access to D2L 
  • Scientific Calculator:
    • If you don’t already have one, I recommend getting a calculator that is approved for use on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam:  Casio: All fx-115 and fx-991 models    OR Texas Instruments: All TI-30X and TI-36X models
  • Pencil, eraser, straight edge or ruler. A drawing template is optional.
  • Engineering paper - not needed week 1 & sold in PCC bookstores.
  • Google Drive - All Students already have a Google Drive with their @pcc.edu email account.
  • Google Sheets, Google Docs, Google CoLab - All Students already have these services with their @pcc.edu email account. 
  • Screen Capture Software - built into Windows and all major operating systems
  • Ability to scan or create PDF documents - typically a scan app on phone works well.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
