Details about this class

Hello, students!

This course prepares you for future academic classes after ESOL. You practice writing several types of essays. You study advanced grammar and vocabulary. You apply critical thinking to the use of outside sources of information. At the end of the course, you combine your individual essays into one research paper. Students leave this course with confidence for Writing 121 and beyond.

You do not need to buy a textbook. All materials are provided to you on D2L or Google. They are free.

Here are some comments from students who took this class recently:

  • The instructor is very patient and responsible for the class. He always revised our homework carefully and give some useful feedback.
  • My teacher Tim is very knowledgeable. He got us involved in different activities in the class encouraging us to think and use what we learned.
  • Tim, who is my instructor, is very sympathetic and enthusiastic with students who need him the most to explain some homework that they are unclear, especially learning remote during this pandemic.
  • After his class, my writing skill has improved a lot, and I think I am now ready for subsequent classes.

If you have any questions, please send Tim (the instructor) an email: timothy.krause@pcc.edu

Technology

You will need internet access with headphones or speakers to be able to watch and listen to videos online. You will write in Google Docs. You will use D2L instead of a textbook, and you will need to use your PCC email for communication with your instructor. You will need to use the internet to find information; your instructor will show you also how to use the PCC Library to find information. If you do not have this technology at home, you can borrow it from the library or use a computer lab on campus.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
