Level 6 Reading
Hello! My name is Doree, and I am the teacher for this Level 6 Reading class. In this class, we will learn and practice reading strategies, learn new vocabulary, and read a wide variety of texts. You’ll be reading a lot and learning a lot!
Our required novel is Number the Stars by Lois Lowry, and the required textbook is Groundwork for College Reading (5th Edition) by Langan. These are available in the SE Bookstore.
In the skills textbook, we will cover the following reading skills and strategies during the term:
- Vocabulary meaning from context
- Finding the main idea
- Identifying supporting details
- Making inferences
In this class, you will work in pairs and small groups to discuss the readings and practice reading comprehension skills. You will also write about what you’ve read to show comprehension.
We will meet from 9:00 to 11:20 am every Tuesday and Thursday from January 6th to March 19th.
