Details about this class

This is an online course with scheduled meetings. The instructor and students will meet online using Zoom from 6:00 - 8:50 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Class sessions will be used for instructor presentation, discussion and student questions. Class sessions will be recorded and shared with students.

Students will use an online, interactive textbook and weekly coding assignments to acquire and practice basic algorithmic design and programming skills. The course introduces computer programming through the development of programs using the high-level programming language C++. The course content explores foundational programming skills, techniques, syntax, and tools in order to design, write, and execute simple computer programs with an emphasis on problem-solving.

Technology

All that's required is a computer with a web browser and the ability to use an online coding environment (e.g., onlinegdb). Alternatively, students can install an integrated development environment (IDE) such as Visual Studio Community, VS Code or Xcode

This course uses an online textbook from zyBooks.com which is not free. There is no hardcopy textbook, but you can make printouts for yourself. The text can be accessed using any standard web browser.

It is better to buy from the zyBooks.com website than the PCC bookstore (the pricing is better and you can extend the subscription if you wish when the term ends) unless you have financial aid. You can get a temporary subscription for 1 month.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
