Details about this class
My primary goal is to help you learn about the topic, not to demonstrate that I know something you do not know. What I enjoy the most about the face to face classes is being able to interact with the students and enhance the learning experience with examples. I try and make the class fun and interactive. CJ100, 111, 112 and 113 will be helpful before taking this class, but is not required.
The is a new course available in the Criminal Justice department starting winter term.
One to two topics will be covered each week. There is no midterm and there is a final. For this class, there will be a weekly assignment tied to a group discussion, and a group assignment. I have found that students who attend regularly and participate in the course do well in my classes.
This is an in-person course, attendance is necessary to understand material and stay caught up during the course. I encourage you to seek an online option if you are not able to commit to attending the class each week.
Attendance is required for the first week or you will be dropped from the course, no exceptions.
Book: Ethical Dilemmas and Decisions in Criminal Justice, 11th Edition, Author Joycelyn Pollock. The book might be available through the library for check out. It is also typically available online, but you would need to order it early and choose expedited shipping. If you do not choose expedited shipping, the book is sent via Media Rate, which can take 2-3 weeks.
Thanks,
Vance Stimler
Technology
There will be accompanying videos for the subjects available in D2L. I have also attempted to find open source material in place of a book, but it is quite difficult to put all of the information together like a book without citing 5-10 or more websites. The book is available used online or for rent for a reasonable cost, please look online before purchasing at the book store. If you order a book online, pay the expedited shipping otherwise it can take up to two weeks to ship via media or book rate shipping.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
