I am delighted to be your professor for CIS121 - Information Systems and Programming! 

This course is designed to provide you with a "sampling" of various types of technology, skills, and information. In this course, you will learn about:

  • Ethics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in technology
  • Security
  • Webpages (HTML/CSS/CSS Box Model)
  • Basic Programming (Python & Programming control structures)
  • Databases (querying and analyzing data)
  • Operating systems
  • Networking/Data Communications

Core Technology

Instructional Materials Required Hardware:

  • Reliable access to a computer capable of running the Require Software (see below)
  • Reliable access to the Internet including a Web browser
  • Access to a microphone/headset and webcam (for modalities that require synchronous attendance & participation)

Required Textbook

  1. Sign in or create an account at learn.zybooks.com
  2. ZyBook Code is required (will be given  within the first week of classes)
  3. It will require your section/CRN number (refer to the Course Information at the top of the syllabus).

Technology

Required Software

A Chrome Notebook does not have the features necessary to succeed in this course.

MAC USERS or LINUX USERS -If you are using a non-Windows based operating system (OS),  you may have difficulty accessing some functions of the Microsoft Suite or other software necessary to complete your assignments.  PCC’s Propeller software gives you  remote access to complete all of this term’s course. 

Note:  All the listed software is available free of charge to PCC students, except for your computer's operating system, e.g. MAC-OS, Windows-OS. Some is open source software and consequently free to everyone.

  • Windows 8. 10, 11 or Mac OSX
  • Microsoft Office (including Access) or LibreOffice (Base)
  • PCC provides free licenses for MS Office Suite at Office 365 | Information Technology at PCC
  • Web browser (such as, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Chrome)
  • Zip program (typically included in MAC-OS or Windows-OS)
  • Text editor (such as Brackets or NotePad++)
  • Diagram or Chart-Making Software (such as, Visio, or draw.io)
  • Pycharm Edu or Pycharm with EDU Tools plug in

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
