This Practicum course requires an application. Please schedule an appointment with our ECE program navigator, shea.selby@pcc.edu, to create an education plan and get an application. In this Practicum course, you will complete 9 hours per week at your child care center or in-home center that follows the requirements of the Practicum application. This course has a co-requisite (ECE 130b) that meets remotely on Thursdays from 5-6:60 pm. As noted above, this course requires an application process and supporting documents to complete the process: ORO step, Criminal History, Food Handlers Card, and MMR record. You will work with your Mentor Teacher (who meets the requirements on the application) who will observe and evaluate you throughout the term. There are weekly Module assignments that are due on Sunday (11:59 pm).

This course focuses on observation and assessment of children, their development, and the classroom routines. We use observation, Mentor Teacher interviews, a developmental assessment, an environmental checklist, an Anti-Bias checklist, and the CLASS materials (required materials for ECE 130b) to reflect upon our weekly Module (assignments). I think you will learn that these are high-quality teaching strategies that are effective with all types of learners. Across the 10 weeks of the term, you will be able to observe, assess, and reflect upon the theories and practices you are implementing in the classroom. You will also be planning for and implementing curriculum for the classroom as you lead for a total of 4 times throughout the term.
