Details about this class
This is a great class for fulfilling your science credits if you are earning an associate's degree or planning to continue on to a 4-year college or university. It's an introductory class about the living world, and we learn together about life at different scales, starting will cells (and even smaller, with biological molecules) and then zooming out and looking at the living part of the planet as a biosphere with many different ecosystems.
I am intentional in creating community in this class. You will make some friends! Each week in the "lecture" part of the class, I explain some concepts and then we do some class work together, to help you learn by doing. In lab, we do all sorts of experiments that are related to the concepts we are learning along the way. You'll get confident in using simple lab tools and techniques to test hypotheses and answer questions about cells, plants and animals, organic molecules, and more. We also practice scientific literacy and talk about science and society along the way.
Technology
There is no additional technology required for this class.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
