Details about this class
This class in Painting the Human figure uses live, clothed models via Zoom. The focus of the class is the figure in the environment and how to use the tools of painting to create a believable world for the model. Because the focus is on the environment as much as on the figure, various strategies for connecting figure and ground are explored, as well as the implication of narrative in painting, particularly when the model might be in two poses in the same painting. The class meets on Fridays for 6 contact hours with an hour break from 12-1pm for lunch. Morning sessions (9am- 12pm) involve building specific skills and strategies in paintings and then in the afternoon (1-4pm) applying these to the model. Homework consists of finishing work begun in class (usually 3-5 hours per week outside of class).
