Details about this class

Hello Students, Are you thinking of taking a drawing class? No experience is required. It is a great way to earn General Education Credits. Here is some info to help you decide if Drawing is the right course for you.

  • Class Meeting Time:  Friday 9am - 2:50 pm. We take a lunch break from 12:00-12:30
  • Modality and Attendance:Attendance and participation is graded and required for the times listed in the schedule of classes. This class meets in person at the Rock Creek Campus, Building 3, Room 124. Class lectures and demos will not be recorded. Students must attend all class sessions and complete 6 hours of homework each week in order to complete the 12 hours of weekly coursework required for a 4 credit lecture/lab class.
  • Studio Art Class Format:  Class time is used for a variety of activities including slide lectures, demonstrations, work time on drawing projects, group critiques and one on one feedback. We have weekly critiques/discussions about student projects. We will use D2L for submitting assignments for grades, reviewing course documents, and accessing  supplemental course materials like videos or readings.
  • Supplies: The supply kit is about $92.  A few weeks before class, I send a link to the kit  which can be purchased through the PCC Rock Creek bookstore only. You can purchase it online and then pick it up in person. You may have it shipped, but you will be charged for the shipping cost.  Financial aid can be used to purchase supplies. Here is a link to for Using Financial Aid to Purchase Supplies
  • Course Content: Some of the topics covered in this class are light and shade, composition, western linear perspective, still life,  portraiture, landscape, and eastern spatial representation. We look at a variety of approaches to drawing that offer different cultural perspectives.
  • Feedback I  give lots of feedback to help you get the best possible grade:-)
  • Homework and Resubmission: Feedback is given in class during critiques and discussions. Homework is submitted in D2L for grading purposes. You can scan or photograph your artwork and upload as a jpeg or pdf.  We have something due every week.  Like any college level course you should  EXPECT to spend 6 hours a week on your drawing assignments and exploring supplementary course materials relevant to your projects such as video demos, readings, preparatory learning exercises, and lectures.
  •  Critiques: During class we have critiques which are discussions where we  share our work on a project and talk about it both in progress and at the end of assignments. We learn so much by hearing each other 's perspectives and it is really fun. Critique Discussions are graded, because the benefits are so amazing!
