Details about this class

Drawing I & II is a hands-on studio art course that introduces the visual language of drawing, basic perceptual drawing techniques, media, and tools. The course explores personal expression and the creative problem-solving skills of sighting, measuring, composing, and constructing in drawing. Drawing I & II presents foundational vocabulary to discuss and evaluate drawings within diverse historical and contemporary cultural contexts. Audit available.

Instructor demonstrations, slides, lectures, video/films may be included. Homework will be assigned in the form of individual exploration of the concepts and processes introduced in class. Materials cost approximately $81 and can be purchased in a kit through PCC Bookstore. A list of materials can be found in Content in D2L.

It is highly recommended students be present during class meetings to get everything they can out of the studio experience. The syllabus, materials, assignments, videos and readings discussed in class are also available in the Content section in D2L. Students will post assignments in Discussions in D2L.

A course outline with due dates, homework, etc., will also be available in Content in D2L.

Technology

Students will utilize D2L for artwork/ assignment submissions. Work will be photographed and uploaded 'Discussions'. All projects and supplemental information discussed in class can be found in 'Content' in D2L.  We will periodically critique each other's work in class. There will be one written 'Signature Assignment', an assignment mandated by the college, assigned toward the end of the term.
