Details about this class

  • This is an Online course with Scheduled Meetings
  • The learning is self paced and assignments will be due weekly.
  • You will be able to email questions to your instructor or tutor, or post them on a Q&A discussion forum.
  • You will follow written and video instructions to create AutoCAD drawings.
  • No book is required, and all learning materials will be provided.

Technology

  • In this course, you will learn the Windows version of AutoCAD to create two dimensional architectural drawings.
  • AutoCAD is free to students through the Autodesk Education portal.
  • Instructions for software installation will be provided on the first day of class.
  • There is no need to install the software before class begins.
  • Make sure your computer meets the system requirements to run the software. A Chromebook won't do.
  • Google "system requirements for AutoCAD 2025" to see if your computer meets them.
  • If you own a Mac, you can install AutoCAD for Mac (it is different from the Windows version). Or, even better, install the Windows version using Parallels software. Why? because instructional videos are created using the Windows version and they look different.
  • If you are going to purchase a computer for school, the Architecture program recommends that you purchase a Windows based machine over a Mac because you'll need to learn Autodesk Revit and it does not exist for the Mac.  In addition, our computer labs / classrooms are all Windows based so it's best if you're not constantly switching platforms.
  • However, if you already have a Mac, you can install Parallels to run Windows based software on your Mac.
  • In addition to system requirements for AutoCAD, your computer should be equipped with a web cam, microphone, speakers and a good WiFi connection.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
