Details about this class
Hello, everyone!
My name is Sarah Coffer and I’m excited to be your Advanced Reading and Writing - Language Arts 2 instructor this summer at the beautiful Cascade Campus. I teach primarily in the ESOL department, but I love teaching language arts in ABE because I enjoy discussing with students purposes for reading and writing and critically analyzing text and media. My goal is to help you feel confident about the GED RLA exam and about your academic potential. I’m open to any and all feedback that helps me help you, so don’t hesitate to reach out.
Let me tell you a little bit about our class this summer. We will:
- Meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 12:50 pm beginning Monday, June 22nd and ending on Wednesday, August 26th.
- Meet in Terrell Hall Room 210 on Cascade Campus
- Focus primarily on reading on Mondays
- Focus primarily on writing on Wednesday
- Build on lessons week to week to develop our skills and confidence
- Meet primarily in-person (a Zoom option is available - please follow the contact instructions to make arrangements)
In class we will:
- Meet and work together for 6 hours a week
- Participate in reading and writing discussions and activities
- Analyze text and media
- Use computers, Google Documents, and D2L Brightspace (our class website)
- Take short, campus-based ‘field-trip’ activities on occasion
I look forward to meeting and working with each of you. Together we can make it a fun learning experience this summer. :)
Technology
We will be using Chromebook and desktop computers at Cascade to access lessons, take online quizzes, and write compositions in this class. You are welcome to bring your own laptop if you have one, but you do not need any additional technology for this class. We will access assignments on D2L (our class website) and/or I will provide printed materials for you in class.
You will need to access your MyPCC account and check your PCC email and our class’s D2L website regularly. You will need to use learning tools online and Google Documents. It’s okay if you’re not comfortable using technology for learning yet. Support for learning how to use these tools will be provided in class and there are more opportunities outside of class, too.
We will also use the following free or inexpensive sites for learning in this class:
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
