Details about this class

Thank you for considering this on-campus MTH 199U + MTH 199V pair of courses!

MTH 199V is a “corequisite support” course for MTH 199U.

MTH 199U is a new course that we’re developing and the main goal of this course is to prepare you for MTH 111Z.

As a corequisite support course for MTH 199U, MTH 199V will be used to supplement your learning, both in terms of math and general studentship skills, to give you a better chance of success in the MTH 199U course.

You must register for both CRNs (33093 and 33095) to be able to take either course and you will earn separate grades in each course. The pair of courses is designed to build algebraic skill in preparation for MTH 111Z and is currently in the pilot stage so thank you for being a part of this new pilot.

As a math teacher, I'm confident that everyone can learn and understand the math and algebra we will cover in this course. I'll do the best I can to help you do so, and I expect you to spend as much time and effort as needed for you to have a good learning experience this term.

This class will take a lot of your time because it is a 5-credit class (4 math credits and 1 elective corequisite support course). In a typical week, you can expect to spend:

  • 7 hours in class working with the class on math. Time in class will be active. You can expect a lot of group work and time to engage in math.
  • 8 hours outside of class doing (preparation assignments, practice assignments, studying, visiting the tutoring center, working with the mentor...)

Please know that I am here to support you and encourage you to reach out with any questions you may have.

Technology

To participate in our class, you'll need:

  • dependable internet access,
  • device with web browser

We will be using an online homework and learning system.  While I haven’t decided on the exact system we’ll be using, it will be free.

A graphing calculator is not required for the course.  Instead, we will use a free app called Desmos for graphing, when a graphing utility is appropriate.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
