Details about this class
Welcome! I am glad you're here. I'm the instructor, Kelley Whitmore. Please read the class details below.
IN-PERSON CLASS. This is an in-person math class to prepare you for taking the GED. I do not offer a Zoom option for participating in this class.
NO TEXTBOOK. No textbook is needed. Class materials like problem sets, worksheets, quizzes, and other assignments will be passed out or completed on D2L each week. To access D2L, log in to your "my pcc" account. On the top right of the screen, click on the icon that looks like a laptop. This will take you to D2L, PCC's online learning platform. Scroll down to see an image with with our course number: ABE-0782-31817 Foundations of Math 1. Click here.
NOTE: You have to be accepted into PCC to have a "My PCC" email account.
PCC EMAIL. Knowing how to access your PCC email is essential as I will send email announcements over the term. Emails will include links to previous assignments and material if you'd like to review or if you miss a class.
ACCESSING ONLINE INFORMATION. To access your PCC email and D2L, log into "My PCC" account. On the top right of the screen, the icon that looks like a laptop will take you to D2L. Click on the envelope icon to get to your mail.
IN-CLASS ASSIGNMENTS. Assignments are based on what is covered during the class time. We will build on what we learn each week. The majority of the classwork is done during class. If you need extra practice or don't complete the work in class, you can take the work home with you to work on. If you'd like extra work for practicing, please let me know.
WHAT ELSE TO EXPECT. While this class does not require a mid-term or final exam, you can expect problem sets, quizzes, and worksheets each week. Building your skills in all of these exercises is an essential part of preparing for the GED, future college classes, and professional settings.
EXTRA HELP. There is plenty of time in class for you to get your questions answered. However, if you'd like extra help, please let me know. There is also a tutoring center with more flexible hours. I will check-in with you regularly on your progress, but please reach out whenever you have a question.
Please reach out if you have additional questions. My email is kelley.whitmore@pcc.edu.
Technology
You do not need any additional technology for this class. Assignments will be accessed on D2L (PCC's Learning Platform) and/or printed and passed out during class. There will be days when we work on D2L in class. On those days, students can use PCC's laptops.
If you ever want or need to submit an assignment via email, you can work with your instructor on the best way to do that.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
