Details about this class
Hello! My name is Doree, and I am the teacher for this Level 5 Reading class. In this class, we will learn and practice reading strategies, learn new vocabulary, and read a wide variety of texts. You’ll be reading a lot and learning a lot!
Our required novel is "El Deafo" by Cece Bell. This is available in the SE Bookstore, or you can borrow it from the library or purchase at other bookstores or online.
We will cover the following reading skills and strategies during the term:
- Vocabulary meaning from context
- Finding the main idea
- Identifying supporting details
- Making inferences and predictions
In this class, you will work in pairs and small groups to discuss the readings and practice reading comprehension skills. You will also write about what you’ve read to show your comprehension.
Please note the class is longer for Summer Term, but the term is shorter. We will meet from 9:00 to 11:20 am every Tuesday and Thursday. Our class starts on Tuesday, June 23rd, and the last class is Tuesday, August 18th. I look forward to meeting you!
